ZECN Zhiye China: Body cameras, details determine success or failure

On August 20, 2014, the 6th China International Road Traffic Safety Products Expo opened at the China International Exhibition Center. The theme of this expo was "Innovation Changes Transportation, Technology Leads the Future." More than 210 excellent domestic and international companies participated. At this expo, Mr. Wang Junming of ZECN accepted an exclusive interview with a reporter from China Transportation Technology Network. Tranbbs: Please introduce Zhicheng Technology. Zhicheng Technology is dedicated to the law enforcement recorder industry. We entered the industry in 2009, which was still in its cultivation period. Industry standards had not been established, development was slow, and even user needs were unclear. At that time, Zhicheng Technology took the lead in proposing the concept of high-definition law enforcement recorders and was the first to transform the concept into an actual product. Although law enforcement recorders are small, the technology applied is of high value. Our products have two invention patents and as many as 12 utility model patents. Jinan Zhicheng always pays attention to product research and development and the application of new technologies. Currently, the R&D team has 30 people, and the annual R&D investment reaches 8 million yuan. We invest as much as possible in R&D so that the products can better meet the actual needs of users. Our goal is to maximize the social impact of our products once they reach the hands of users. In 2011, industry standards began to be implemented, and Zhicheng Technology's products were the first to pass the standard detection. Tranbbs: What do you think is the current status of technology application in the law enforcement recorder industry and the future development trend? The law enforcement recorder industry has developed to the point where the hardware is gradually becoming similar to a mobile phone, ultimately becoming a terminal. It's more accurate to call it a law enforcement terminal. Accordingly, there needs to be a backend for the terminal. Zhicheng Technology has made large-scale investments in backend R&D since the second half of last year, including a law enforcement recorder management system and an audio-video data system. We have also developed a global positioning application system for law enforcement recorders. Currently, among domestic manufacturers, Zhicheng Technology is the only one with practical application cases, and user feedback has been very good. Another characteristic of Zhicheng Technology's products is stability. Our products have been used for a long time and are relatively stable. This also shows that Zhicheng Technology does not just promote concepts; we produce products that can withstand user testing. At the current stage of development, law enforcement recorders are no longer just individual products but require system support and application. It can be said that any peer manufacturer's equipment can meet the basic requirements of users, but maximizing its effectiveness requires comprehensive data integration, comparison, and analysis. For users, one is how to manage and use the law enforcement recorder, and the other is how to utilize the data collected after police officers use the law enforcement recorder, linking it to business and services and connecting it to their police comprehensive platform data. Tranbbs: For equipment manufacturers, "price wars" are unavoidable. How does Zhicheng Technology view price competition in the law enforcement recorder industry? From a business perspective, price is a key factor. From the user's perspective, price is also a key factor, but these two prices are different. The price we talk about in the enterprise is to minimize costs. For users, it's about spending reasonably. That is, the supplier must make a profit so that I can get good quality products and good service, and truly use the equipment. If you simply pursue the lowest price, it might be the worst situation for the user: For businesses to survive, they cannot deviate from the law of price and value—you get what you pay for. From the perspective of distributors and enterprises, if the value of a product is 1500 yuan, and you insist on buying it for 1200 yuan, I might sell it to you, but the after-sales service might not be satisfactory because service is also part of the cost. Tranbbs: What new products did Zhicheng Technology bring to this expo? This is our latest product. Its main features are its small size, standard machine functionality, light weight, and comfortable wear. This product better reflects Zhicheng Technology's attention to detail. For example, the battery issue: smaller products mean smaller battery capacity and shorter battery life. External batteries are cumbersome and defeat the purpose of miniaturization. We designed a replaceable battery that addresses this. However, if the battery runs out during recording, changing it requires shutting down, resulting in missing video. We solved this by allowing battery changes without interrupting recording. This is one example of our attention to detail. Other features include auxiliary pointing functions, and the handling of day and night image changes and color deviations, all using our patented technology, to make these user-friendly details as perfect as possible and readily available to users. Tranbbs: Compared to other intelligent transportation products, law enforcement recorders are closer to consumer electronics. What requirements does this type of product place on manufacturing enterprises? I think this industry's products test a company's strength. A century-old store means that the longer a company exists, the more it demonstrates its value and strength. Especially in the law enforcement equipment industry, there must be a sense of social responsibility. Products are meant to improve the fairness and justice of law enforcement and contribute to society. Enterprises must have a strong sense of social responsibility and adhere to this approach consistently to contribute to society. Only such enterprises can be considered successful. We also call on companies in the industry to act from a sense of social responsibility, have a strategic vision, reduce artificial barriers, and work together to cultivate the industry and promote fair competition.
